Financial Assistance

Letter from the director

Dear Friends:

We have great news for you! We have been asked by many residents and family members if their payments to Rosa Senior Living are tax deductible and we would like to let you know that in most cases the entire monthly cost for assisted living care is tax deductible as a medical expense.

Under the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”), beginning in January 1997, the cost of maintenance or personal care services that are required by an individual who is unable to perform at least two activities of daily living or who suffers from severe cognitive impairment and who requires supervision to protect self and others from threats to health and safety can be tax deductible if such services are provided pursuant to a plan of care prescribed by a licensed health care practitioner.

We believe the vast majority of Rosa Senior Living residents are likely to meet the requirements for tax deductibility as a medical expense. If you provide over half of a family member’s total support for the calendar year and that person may qualify as your dependent you may be able to deduct his/her medical expenses on your tax return.

This is a tremendous financial benefit to many family members and residents. Because Rosa is unable to provide tax advice we encourage you to fully explore this opportunity and seek the advice of your tax advisor.
